The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding offers internships which allow students to gain experience in technical or administrative positions and provide the opportunity to gain experience in their field of study as well as an understanding of our business. This opportunity could possibly lead to future full time employment but is not guaranteed. Some engineering, technical, and waterfront positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
Must Have
Newport News Shipbuilding will be offering 2025 summer internships to students majoring in Engineering bachelor or master's degree programs including Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Structural, Civil, Computer etc. Students will have the opportunity to work 40 hours a week for 10 consecutive weeks during the summer months on a variety of assignments related to their major. Some engineering, technical, and waterfront positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. All applicants must ensure the information below has been provided when applying for the summer internship program. Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify:
Must be enrolled in a 4-year college/university (or 2+2 program) or master's degree programs for Fall 2025
Engineering majors must be ABET-accredited
Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
Unofficial transcripts are required when applying. Failure to upload transcripts at time of application will result in automatic disqualification
