In your role as AR Principal Inkjet Printing (IJP) Engineer, you will help us deepen our understanding of this technology, allowing us to delineate how our products can push the performance of current devices. You will play a central role in helping us to define scale-up paths for products using our materials and processes.

You will be based at our Silicon Valley critical initiative in San Jose to develop new materials to impact next-generation AR/VR products.

Tasks:

  • As a material engineer, you will be in charge of finding scalable ways to deposit material for Polarization Volume Hologram (PVH) waveguides.
  • You will also help us find ways to effectively and repeatably characterize our components at thin film coating and combiner levels.
  • You will work with OEMs to scope and develop LPC thin-film coating methods that are able to increase throughput while maintaining high yield and optical performance.

Who you are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in chemistry, physics, material science, computer science or related field.
  • Extensive industry experience working on the development of AR/VR technology-related products (4 or more years).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding of LCP thin-film coating techniques used to produce AR/VR components and able to find ways to scale up.
  • Strong understanding of liquid crystal chemistry and physics.
  • Proven experience in inkjet printing technology, specifically with liquid crystal materials or similar formulations.
  • Proficient in MATLAB and Photoshop for creating dithering and bitmap generators.
  • Familiarity with using JMP for quality control processes, ensuring that product specifications are met and maintained.
  • Hands-on experience with inkjet maintenance and routine calibration checkpoints.
  • Proficiency in inkjet printing processes and equipment. Experience with material characterization techniques (e.g., rheology, viscosity, and optical properties).
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot formulation and process issues effectively.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, process development, and quality assurance. Experienced in communication with remote teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and adapt to changing deposition project requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to push the boundaries of current approaches and innovate in materials and applications in fabrication.
  • Proven record of using wet coating technologies to fabricate AR/VR devices, including but not limited to slot die coating, inkjet printing, and optical lithography.
  • Good understanding of the related IP in the field and a proven record of innovation
