Job Summary:

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) Nursing Services serves as a leader of the Cobb Hospital Nursing Leadership team, and is responsible for assisting with performance excellence in Nursing Practice and Clinical Operations. This role supports the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The focus of this role is to implement key initiatives and innovations that contribute to the plan, coordination and leadership of nursing and clinical performance in the provision of high quality cost-effective care delivering value to our patients and the communities that we serve.
The AVP Nursing Services works in partnership with site leaders to foster an interdisciplinary team approach to the overall delivery of care to patients, families, and the community. This leader brings an in-depth knowledge of nursing operations from a clinical, quality, practice, and emerging models of care perspective. This individual will partner with site nursing leaders to assess best-practice and opportunities to optimize to meet the needs of a large quaternary site.
The AVP of Nursing Services at Cobb Hospital will assist with execution of quality initiatives and facilitate work that produces site benchmark performance in the nurse sensitive indicators and other quality indicators. The leader will implement action plans to improve and sustain patient experience measures that support a world-class experience. The AVP will collaborate with the site nursing leaders to ensure constant regulatory and accreditation readiness. The leader will assist with facilitation of a robust shared governance environment to prepare for the Magnet journey. The individual will partner with Talent Acquisition on the recruitment of talented staff and assist with retention efforts. The AVP will serve as a mentor for the Executive Directors of Nursing and nursing managers.
As a member of the Cobb Hospital Nursing team, this leader is responsible for ensuring that all regulatory laws that govern Cobb Hospital are upheld. It is expected this leader is licensed, knowledgeable and upholds the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Patient Satisfaction/ Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers Systems (HCAHPS)
- Create and maintain an environment focused on caregivers, processes, environment and patients
- personal issues as reflected in patient satisfaction measurements.
- Actively participate in the routine review of patient satisfaction measurements and outcomes.
- Implement action plans to improve and sustain measures that support a world-class patient experience. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Holds self and staff to the highest professional standards and ethics ensuring corporate compliance standards etc. are met by leaders and staff. Is an active member of ones professional community and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice and nursing leadership advances the field through transformational executive leadership, support of shared governance, and scholarly activity

- Masters excellent partnership and teamwork skills with other members of the leadership team, physicians/other colleagues, and leaders in the Hospital/Health Care System/Community
- Maintains current knowledge of patient care delivery systems and innovations.
- Serves as a change agent for such things as redesign of care delivery; patient flow; implementation of innovative new roles or programs for health care services and thus is required to be a lifelong learner expecting leadership team and staff to do the same.
- Successfully works with the nurse leadership team to employ change management strategies and instills in self and others the curiosity to explore new knowledge and ideas.
- Is able to interpret and promotes evidence based practice for administration and patient care and supports leaders and staff in the organization to do the same. Participates in outcome measures and shares in the dissemination of best practice and research findings to improve patient care and health services within and outside of the institution. - Articulates federal and state payment systems and regulations, as well as private insurance issues which affect organizational finances. Upholds the fiduciary responsibility of the organization and provides leadership for the execution of the resources of the organization to meet the care needs of patients/families and those individuals who seek services at the Hospital.
- Engages leaders in decision- making and partners with others to promote patient centered care and service excellence while effectively providing leadership and management skills for a specific business/clinical unit, possesses strong and effective negotiation and mediation skills
- Serves to support the nursing leadership team to promote the effective running of the care delivery system and ensures that the clinical processes of care are working as intended. Serves as a resource for all leaders and accepts additional leadership responsibilities.
- Implements continuum of care options for managing patient throughput for all levels of service and
- uses metrics to measure the outcomes of care and practice
- Analyzes and manages financial resources; uses Lean Six Sigma principles and other quality skills to support fiscal responsibility, reduce waste and improve performance of operations and clinical systems of care; engages in internal and external benchmarking with national and local databases
- Participates in workforce planning and redesign and champions a diverse workforce particularly as this relates to a workforce that mirrors the diversity of the community served by the Hospital.
- Hires and develops an engaged team of leaders and staff that raises collective performance to
- achieve top percentile standing in all WHSs Performance Pillar Goals
- Support advancement of the image of the Hospital and Nursing in the community. Interdisciplinary Teamwork and Collaboration
- Proactively establishes a healthy work place by reducing unnecessary conflict, resolving it when necessary promotes and achieves positive team dynamics whereby all disciplines/departments know and respect the contributions of everyone in the Hospital/Health Care System.

Required Minimum Education:

Master's Degree in Nursing Required and
Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school Required or
Master's Degree in related field. A PhD, DNP or DNsc is preferred as well as experience in having led a health care organization to ANCC Magnet Status. Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 12 years of experience as a Registered Nurse Required and
Minimum 7 years of progressive operational leadership in a manager or Director role Required and
Due to the patient volume, scope of services and complexity of patient acuity, strongly prefer a candidate with experience as a nursing executive in an executive director, VP or Chief Nursing Officer role. Required

Required Minimum Skills:

Should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building; a knowledge of the health care environment; leadership that includes such skills as successfully implementing and managing a change process ability to use systems thinking- and inspire, coach others to be successful; model the way for professional practice; professionalism and teamwork/collaboration for self/department/medical staff; and possess necessary business skills to manage human and material resources.
Must be a continuous learner who understands health care finance; strategy and operations for running a business unit(s); and effectively employ data and technology to support work processes and make decisions.
Supports shared governance or shared decision making; manage the design and delivery of care that is based on evidence and focused on quality and safety.
Knowledge of risk management and various accreditation/regulations/licensing requirements assuring that these are upheld while advancing industry standards through the achievement of goals by effective management and measurement of outcomes
