Eveleen Lorton Endowed Junior Chair for Pedagogy, Innovation and Excellence
The Department of Teaching and Learning, University of Miami (UM) School of Education and Human Development (SEHD), is conducting a search for an early to mid- career faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor whose expertise and program of research will further the Department's mission to foster innovation and excellence in educational practice. The successful candidate will be appointed as the Eveleen Lorton Endowed Junior Chair for Pedagogy, Innovation and Excellence
The Department welcomes applications from outstanding scholars whose work centers equity and inclusion both in teacher learning and development. Candidates should have experience working in racially, ethnically, linguistically, and economically diverse schools and communities, and in building sustainable school-university partnerships. Candidates should have the potential for, or a record of, accomplishment in scholarly research, publication, extramural funding, teaching and service that would qualify them for tenure at an AAU university.
We are seeking a colleague whose scholarly focus may include:
- Robust research agenda related to equitable and inclusive approaches in teacher learning and development
- Focus on bridging research to educational practice through collaborative partnerships in urban settings
- Commitment to educational equity through supportive practices for teacher learning and development
- Knowledge of culturally relevant/responsive/sustaining pedagogy that supports all students' learning and development
- Emphasis on educational transformation and innovation through the development of equity-oriented teachers as agents of change
- Leadership in the dual (elementary education and special education) certification teacher preparation program
Required Qualifications
- Earned PhD in curriculum & instruction, teacher education, literacy/reading education, special education, STEM education, or a related field of education
- Demonstrated success or high potential to obtain external funding for research and/or professional development initiatives
- Demonstrated experience in supporting teachers to meet the educational needs of linguistically and culturally diverse students
- Demonstrated advocacy for and/or work with communities historically underserved and marginalized by educational policies and practice
- Demonstrated ability to mentor doctoral students with a range of research interests and career objectives
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant experience working in elementary and secondary schools
- Strong interest in program development, including both degree programs and community- and school district-based partnerships
The duties of this position within the Department may include: (a) teaching and mentoring of pre service and in service teachers; (b) actively pursuing extramural funding, (c) community building with school-university partnership; (d) implementation of a substantive program of research; (e) mentoring doctoral students; (f) Department leadership; (g) collaboration with other faculty in the Department and SEHD on research and teaching, as appropriate; (h) departmental and university service commensurate with rank; and (i) other duties as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
