Job Description
The Departments of Africana Studies and Psychology at Wellesley College are inviting applications for a tenure-track joint faculty position (at the Assistant Professor level) in the field of Black psychology. We are especially interested in someone whose research is community-based or applied, with a focus and direct impact on underserved communities, such as on mental health/well-being. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in psychology or a related field by the time of the appointment, which begins on July 1, 2025.

Candidates must be excellent teachers and have a demonstrated ability to maintain an active, high-quality research program. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Class sizes at Wellesley are small, and we seek candidates who will be effective in a liberal arts setting with high levels of student interaction. The successful applicant will teach two courses in Africana Studies and two in Psychology. One of these four courses will be Black Psychology; the others will include core courses in psychology (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Statistics, a 200-level in the candidate's subfield, or Research Methods), and an upper-level seminar in the candidate's area of expertise. Courses in Africana Studies could be related to Race and Racism; Racial Trauma; Black Youth and Families, or Black Education. We seek candidates whose research and teaching will inspire and connect with our diverse community of students.
