Position Summary:The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications from broadly trained vertebrate physiologists for a tenure-track position to begin Fall 2025. Appointment at the rank of assistant professor is likely, but qualified candidates may be considered for a higher rank. Teaching responsibilities will include an advanced course in the candidate's area of specialty, direction of and participation in anatomy and physiology courses for biology and pre-health students, and teaching introductory and capstone courses in our innovative curriculum.
The duties in this role include:
- Teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory biology courses at all levels, utilizing active, engaging pedagogies and research-rich laboratory projects.
- Teach advanced course in area of specialty; participate and direct anatomy and physiology courses for biology and pre-health students; teaching introductory and capstone courses in our innovative curriculum.
- Engage students one-on-one, in research, in student organizations, and in departmental workshops to develop academic and professional skills and assist in making purposeful course, program, and career choices.
- Develop as a teacher and researcher through conferences, workshops, departmental activities, current pedagogical literature, etc.
- Develop and maintain an active, productive, fundable research program in area of specialty involving undergraduates. Publish and present work regularly.
- Engage in departmental work such as curriculum development, scheduling, searches, working with student organizations, developing programs for students, etc.
- Define areas of interest where a contribution can be made beyond the department and contribute appropriately to faculty committees or other service opportunities in those areas.
Basic qualifications are required at the time of application:
- The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in physiology or a related field.
- Applicants should have demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring and commitment to developing an active research program engaging undergraduate students.
Preferred qualifications (not required qualifications for the position):
- Postdoctoral experience strongly desired.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and communities is highly desirable.

The salary range for this position: $65,000 - $70,000
