Job Description Summary
As Associate Director, Medical Affairs, Innovation, you will serve as a key member of the Medical Affairs team, focusing on driving innovation and advancing medical strategies, including excellence in evidence generation. This position will partner closely with the Innovation team, and critical functions such as R&D and Marketing to drive innovation projects through the funnel. This position will also be a critical part of tech scouting for UCC, partnering with Business Development and Principle Engineer, Innovation.

Urology & Critical Care Overview:

Urology & Critical Care (UCC) is one of the fastest growing business units in the BD-Interventional Segment, and has 4 platforms - Acute Urology, Endo Urology, Home Care and Targeted Temperature Management.

UCC employs more than 1,000 people around the world and is headquartered in Covington, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. The company has engineering design centers in Atlanta, Denver, Ireland, China & India, as well as numerous manufacturing facilities, located in US, Malaysia, and Mexico.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Expertise : Establish a deep understanding of clinical procedures, disease states, and clinical pathways to support innovation project teams.
  • Opportunity Assessment : Conduct clinical opportunity assessments for priority innovation projects to identify potential areas for development and improvement.
  • Risk Management : Support clinical risk management activities for products throughout the innovation funnel, ensuring all potential risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Evidence Generation : Generate evidence assessments for innovation projects post Gate A, collaborating with Clinical Operations, HEOR, Marketing, Regulatory, and Market Access functions on key innovation deliverables.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Partner with Medical Science Liaisons and Marketing to further develop our clinical Key Opinion Leader engagement strategy to build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Clinical Fluency : Build UCC clinical fluency for critical functions, including R&D, Marketing, and the extended innovation community, ensuring all teams are well-versed in clinical aspects. Support coordination of opportunities for these stakeholders to see clinical activities live with KOLs and key clinical contacts.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members. Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.


About You:
  • MD with Urology specialization is highly desired. Will also consider NP or PA with Urology specialization.
  • Knowledge of Urology procedures including kidney stone management, incontinence, and surgical urology.
  • At least 5 years experience in clinical practice required.
  • At least 2 years previous management experience required.
  • At least 2 years related experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry within clinical research or medical affairs required.
  • Experience with digital health technologies and innovation preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with a strong focus of cross-functional partnership.
  • Patient and outcome focused.
  • Demonstrated capability for critical thinking, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of leading clinical studies and evidence generation activities preferred.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.
  • Experience in Biodesign, clinical studies, and external clinical community engagement is a bonus.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 20-30% of time, potentially including international travel.
