The Bioinformatician will interact with the PIs and laboratory directors across the program to carry out data analysis, working collaboratively to identify and select the analytical methods that are most appropriate for each study. They will encounter a wide array of experimental designs and will troubleshoot problems/challenges that may occur during the analysis, keeping collaborators appraised of project progress. The Bioinformatician will also design, implement and validate new bioinformatics approaches and participate in statistical methods of development for microbiome studies. The Bioinformatician is expected to prepare figures and written reports for publication and grant submission. They will be asked to present at internal meetings and symposia regarding new tools and results.Job Description

Job Responsibilities

The Bioinformatician will apply existing methods and develop new statistical and bioinformatic approaches for analysis of high-throughput sequencing data in microbiome studies. They will maintain computational pipelines and software infrastructure. They will craft figures and written reports for publications and grant applications. They will interface regularly with PennCHOP Microbiome Program PIs and laboratory directors to align their work with organizational goals.

Bioinformatician B -will focus on developing and implementing bioinformatic methods for analysis of large sequence-based data sets. Topics include analyzing the integration of new DNA into genomes, and structure and function of the human virome and microbiome. The Bioinformatician will interact with the PCMP's PIs, visiting scientists and research collaborators daily using a wide array of experimental designs; manage the laboratory information manager system (LIMs); troubleshoot any problems that may occur during a study, including bug fixes, database maintenance, and custom statistical analysis; and carry out analysis of deep sequencing data to characterize genome dynamics. The bioinformatician will also keep the PCMP's PIs and collaborators appraised of project progress and will plan and carry out new bioinformatic analysis and statistical methods development. The successful applicant will prepare written reports for publication and grant submission.

Bioinformatician C -will work independently to provide bioinformatics support to the faculty and staff, perform complex computational and statistical methods development, and supervise other programmers. Focus on developing and implementing bioinformatic methods for analysis of large sequence-based data sets. Topics include analyzing the integration of new DNA into genomes, and structure and function of the human virome and microbiome. Qualifications

Bioinformatician B: Master's Degree and 3 - 4 years of experience in a scientific or engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Ph.D. preferred. Completed coursework in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, and statistics. Expertise in coding and biology/bioinformatics required. Additional experience in statistical analysis, programming in R, parallel/distributed computing, and database management would be helpful.

Bioinformatician C: Master's degree and 5 - 6 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Ph.D and 2 years of experience preferred. Experience in a Bioinformatics B position preferred, with added education and experience in coding and bioinformatic applications. experience in statistical analysis, programming in R, parallel/distributed computing, and database management would be helpful.

Position is contingent upon funding.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
