Job Description Summary

The Controls Technician I installs and maintains all plant control systems including instrumentation, automation/process control, SCADA, electrical and electronic components and industrial machinery and equipment including troubleshooting and diagnosing the problem.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Competency with plant PLC equipment, ability to specify PLC system resources, wire PLC equipment, build PLC programs that will properly control plant systems including start/stop functions, interlocking functions, equipment operational status, PID loop control, valve control, and other PLC control schemes.
  • Competency with Programming of PLC Control Systems including Rockwell Automation.
  • Advanced working knowledge of HMI programming, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced working knowledge of SCADA systems and supporting software such as OPC.
  • Advanced understanding of the Controls device network and protocols such as Ethernet TCP/IP.
  • Ability to do network management.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Rockwell Plant Pax programming.
  • Advanced working knowledge and management of Thin Manager Server and Client software
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills of lower voltage systems and multiple types of instrumentation.
  • Advanced knowledge of both AC and DC power systems and devices.
  • Advanced working knowledge low voltage 480V electrical system & 5 V electronic system as well.
  • Advanced understanding of variable frequency drives (VFD) including installation and setup.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Skills & Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Two-Three years or technical degree in related field or equivalent experience required
  • Must have knowledge of electricity, general maintenance skills and ability through supervision in plant training, self-study, or approved formal training programs in the following areas: electricity, control systems, and plant maintenance.
  • Must have basic mechanical skills.
  • Must have proven troubleshooting skills and abilities
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, use prints, diagrams, operating instructions, and good understanding of technical manuals.
  • Must be able to work any shifts (day, swing, and graveyard) and any day of the week, including weekends. Must be able to work overtime as required by the production and maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and apply safety policies and procedures to work tasks.
  • Be able to perform tasks safely while using various tools and while working on a variety of equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work environment and function effectively in a team.
  • Ability to carry out instructions.
  • Communicate verbally with supervisory personnel as authorized.
