Job Summary:

To provide professional administrative and managerial skills in the coordination of programs and initiatives targeted to current undergraduate students specifically targeted to McNair Scholars. Provide professional knowledge, administrative, and managerial skills in the development coordination of all phases and activities of undergraduate research, scholarships, and sponsored programs. Responsible for assisting the Director(s) with supervision, planning and coordination; and administration of undergraduate research efforts. Assist the Director with day-to-day and advanced management of programming and other duties necessary to deliver, evaluate, and improve deliverables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs day-to-day functions in the coordination of office programs which may include tracking student progress, record keeping, event planning, advising, advertising, and marketing, and listserv announcements, and scholarship, recruitment, retention of participants, graduate/career plans, while providing guidance leading to the Ph.D. (McNair) and McNair Scholars Program (MSN) activity platforms, and and/or other similar functions, as advised by the director(s).
  • Assist in teaching/facilitating course workshops for McNair Scholars program and/or in collaboration with other OUR programs as it relates to MSN.
  • Responds to general inquiries regarding undergraduate research and programs.
  • Manage OUR email to help with such responses.
  • Assists with grant writing, QEP, reports and other scholarly activities geared toward programming support for the MSN.
  • Gathers and compiles program data from events, activities, and program assessments.
  • Aid with collecting data for annual reporting and tracking of current and previous McNair Scholar participants as advised by director(s).
  • Supervise assigned student employees and student leaders.
  • Participate in interviews, assisting with the on-boarding processes, and regular meetings with student participants documenting academic progress, financial/student aid situations, as advised by the director(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including serving on various committees and active in professional development for the Office of Undergraduate Research as needed.
  • Consults and interacts with appropriate administrative and supervising staff regarding program operations for all activities and programs involved. This includes providing direction and recommendations for new initiatives and student journals/publications as advised by director(s).
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related experience and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible administrative higher education experience working with faculty, staff and undergraduate students.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with college students in a programmatic and advisory capacity.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with TRIO programs at an undergraduate institution.
  • Experience in coordinating undergraduate research and creative scholarship programs at an undergraduate institution.
  • Familiarity with external funding opportunities and success in securing such funding is preferred.
  • Experience in an advisory, administrative or educational capacity with students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of undergraduate research and creative activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, provide leadership, and work well as a contributing member to a small team required.
  • Knowledge of student guidance and advising practices as well as university admissions and financial aid programs.
  • Close attention to detail and meticulous administration.
  • Knowledge of computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Quantitative and for qualitative data analysis skills, verbal analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with program marketing and communication including use of social media.
  • Commitment and demonstrated ability to successfully work with various student populations, including first generation college students and underrepresented students.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with traditionally underrepresented students with a commitment to working with various student populations.
