Position is responsible for assisting with the coordination of surgical instrumentation and equipment throughout the CSS systems and partnered areas. Effectively communicate with vendors, end users and staff regarding tray and instrument status. Work with clinical partners to optimize current inventory and implement new items successfully. Monitor and adjust stock levels of back-up instrumentation, request new purchases and resolve issues with instruments and equipment. Partner with CSS Educator to facilitate in-service training on new instrumentation and equipment, as well as Operations leaders to ensure successful implementations. This position will be located at the Integrated Services Center in Coralville.

  • Assist with negotiation, procurement, and placement of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Approve procurement activities to meet needs for perioperative and procedural areas.
  • Partner with Purchasing and/or Shared Services to assure best purchasing practices are utilized.
  • Assist CSS, Perioperative and Procedural area leaders with product evaluation in compliance with hospital policy. Adhere to CSS department product realization procedures and assist departments through the process.
  • Review product specifications and documentation to ensure CSS department can safely process all devices. Assist in product qualification to ensure best processing practices.
  • Develop and maintain inventory in collaboration with end users and vendors, overseeing stock inventory levels and develop tools for stock management and replenishment.
  • Monitor and address inventory issues as liaison between the supplier and the end user.
  • Adjust inventory, make recommendations, and implement change to avoid obsolescence and maximize value to achieve departmental goals.
  • Assist with tray management, including builds, updates, obsoletions and new product implementation.
  • Provide assistance and ensure compliance related to loaner instrumentation and trays entering the system.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding orders and issues that arise.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues between vendor and customer.
  • Respond to issues from perioperative or procedural area partners, seeking to identify root cause and prevent future issues from occurring.
  • Identify opportunities and develop initiatives and efficiencies in current practice/processes.
  • Manage and analyze data to enhance inventory management.
  • Maintain records pertaining to capital purchases, reporting updates as per UI Capital Asset Management policy.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year experience with supply chain processes; purchasing, warehouse, or distribution is required.
  • 3 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience.
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician through CBSPD or HSPA, or obtain certification within 2 years.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create working relationships with team members, surgeons, vendors, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Experience with SPM, PeopleSoft, ePro and Epic.
  • Supply chain management and/or tray management experience in a hospital setting
