Holyoke Community College is housed on a multi-million-dollar, 135-acre campus, equipped with state-of-the art technology in specialized learning facilities. Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean is responsible for leadership, overall management and direction of library services that support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the College. Responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and management of programs, services, budget, and operations. Articulates a vision for the library in alignment with the goals of the college through strategic planning. Identifies, develops and assesses new information technologies, information resources and services. Responsible for leading the library in data-informed decision-making and important initiatives that further equity and diversity, especially in an HSI-serving institution. Assists in identifying and seeking opportunities in College fundraising. Fosters collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to communicate and coordinate initiatives that support College and instructional goals.

1. An active participant in library consortia locally, regionally and statewide to ensure access to all available resources. 2. Maintains delivery of prompt, quality library resources and services to serve the diverse needs of administrators, faculty, students, and the surrounding community. 3. Administers the operations of library operations, including budget preparation, development and implementation of policy, assessment of user services/resources and personnel management. 4. In collaboration with the Office of Planning, Curriculum and Assessment develop and manage the library's strategic and assessment plan in support of the College's mission, vision and strategic plan. Assists departments/programs in providing information on library services related to their program reviews. 5. Assumes a leadership role in identifying new information technologies, resources, and services relevant to the library's mission. 6. Advocates for the continuing development of the library. Fosters professional development for all staff members. 7. Participates actively in College affairs in order to align library programs with institutional goals and integrates the library into the curriculum. 8. Serves as a member of the VPASA Council and Leadership Team, Academic and Student Affairs Staff and other College committees and bodies, including the College Advisory Council. Serves as the designated Academic Affairs representative on one or more standing College Committees. Participates in meetings of the President's Cabinet as needed. Attends meetings of the Board of Trustees, and reports about the Division's activities annually. 9. Directly implements the MCCC/MTA and AFSCME Collective Bargaining agreements and College policies as related to summary staff performance evaluation and progressive disciplinary issues. Represents Academic Affairs & Student Affairs in related union grievances. 10. Works with the Academic Deans and Faculty to maximize faculty's classroom use of library resources 11. In collaboration with Human Resources and VPASA, coordinates, manages and assists in the search process for positions in the library and ASA Division. 12. This position provides oversight for a substantial team of work-study students 13. Work with Institutional Research to provide leadership in data tracking, management and implementation in alignment with the College's strategic and equity plans. 14. Works with the Business Office in developing and administering the annual operating budget. Works with Institutional Advancement and the Foundation in identifying and seeking opportunities in College fundraising. 15. Works effectively with existing administrative platforms such as Neogov, SmartSheet, Online Services, Questica, and learns new platforms as the college adopts them.16. Works collaboratively with the Academic and Student Affairs Divisions in a 'One Team' dynamic to support faculty in the classroom and academic support programs to foster and enhance student success. 17. Assists the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs as requested in carrying out college-wide assignments beyond the scope of the Division that further the mission and vision of the College in alignment with the strategic and equity plans. 18. Represents the division and College in appropriate public and private forums. 19. Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.20. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution with a minimum of five years of progressively increasing levels of leadership and management responsibility and a commitment to staff development in academic libraries.
  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging issues in librarianship and higher education.
  • Ability/knowledge needed to represent HCC library with all consortiums (HELM, MCCLPHEI, MLS, etc.)
  • Experience in developing and administering operating, acquisition, and equipment budgets.
  • Ability to articulate and implement an imaginative and flexible strategic plan for the library that incorporates an understanding of current and emerging technologies, the integration of information literacy into the curriculum, and assessment of library services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the evolving role of libraries in higher education and an ability to work successfully with a diverse and inclusive population with a broad variety of constituents - administrators, faculty, students, community residents, and members of library consortia.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
  • Demonstrates a transformational leadership style, fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvement within the library
  • Knowledge and demonstrated abilities in areas of supervision.
  • Commitment to a customer/student service philosophy required.
  • Ability to interact with all members of the college community, particularly a diverse, multicultural student body.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate teamwork.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Academic library background to understand the particular demands involved in leading a library in academia
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience working in a community college setting.
  • Experience working with college-level faculty
  • Experience working in diverse environment and/or at an HSI
  • Success in acquiring grant support.
  • Supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.

Full-time, Non-Unit Professional position

Salary Range: $115,638.16 - $122,715.82/year; plus a comprehensive State benefits packageHours: 37.5 hrs./weekFunding Source: State
