Job Purpose:
The Direct Food Contact Sourcing Specialist will be responsible for managing and executing sourcing strategies for direct food contact tray and container products, ensuring the best cost solutions, and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of product specifications and market trends. This role combines deep industry knowledge with sourcing expertise to support sales and drive savings.
Job Responsibilities:
• Responsible for strategic sourcing proposals for individual field level sourcing requests:
○ Develop customized product solutions that meet the customer's needs and align with Veritiv's overall strategy and preferred suppliers.
○ Collaborate with Sales to confirm customer application, downstream product touch points, and determine accurate technical specifications which include interpretation of engineering documentation, CAD drawings, gathering and measuring samples, etc.
○ Identify and collaborate with preferred suppliers which can meet the technical needs of the request; may require collaboration with non-preferred suppliers or a search for new suppliers outside of Veritiv's existing catalog which can support the technical requirements of the product.
○ Negotiate costs, terms, minimums, and incentives to gain and/or grow new business and enhance margin position utilizing internal tools and market knowledge.
○ Collaborate with Sales on strategic sourcing strategies and to meet vendor growth incentives.
• For new product development, work closely with suppliers to create and monitor commercialization timelines with strict adherence to key deliverable date and in consideration of the first time buy process.
• Identify, drive, and implement cost reductions during the RFQ process through product, costing and margin analysis.
• Discover, onboard, and maintain supplier relationships; provide insight into supplier performance; maintain additional supplier contacts with unique technical capabilities beyond segment's preferred published list. Make regular recommendations for new preferred suppliers as gaps are identified. Through our preferred supplier base, promote new product introduction to support sales efforts and business growth.
• Other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications:
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality assurance practices.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to develop strategic supplier relationships.
• Analytical skills to evaluate market data within the food and beverage vertical and make informed sourcing decisions.
• Understanding of supply chain and supplier manufacturing. Prior packaging experience is a strong plus.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
• Experience working with ERP systems, contract management, CRM systems, and project management tools preferred.
• Broad knowledge base in food sub vertical markets: Agriculture/Produce, Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Dry Goods, Dairy/Cheese, Prepared Foods.
Work Experience:
• 3-5 years of related job experience.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
• Basic experience of simple office/operational systems.
• Excellent verbal, written, people, and diplomacy skills are required.
• Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short/medium timescales within the overall policy framework.
• Strong customer service skills (friendly, courteous and helpful).
• Strong planning and organization skills are required.
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree Preferred
