POSITION OVERVIEW:

Join a fun-loving and hard working Development team as the Director of Volunteer & Corporate Partnerships. This exciting role is the staff lead for volunteer programming and client events at The Jewish Board, and a member of the Development Leadership Team.

The Jewish Board believes that volunteer service is an important component of the donor pipeline as well as a critical way to build the capacity of our programs. Our Volunteer Department is all about supporting clients, programs, and staff, through engaging volunteers in meaningful and mission supportive work.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading a volunteer team - developing strategy and thinking big picture, while supporting a team of committed professionals in executing on the day-to-day. She/he/they will bring experience in engaging corporate groups. The Director will work closely with program staff; an understanding of program needs, as well as creativity, are a must. Knowledge of government regulatory oversight or experience working with/in regulated programs is a bonus.

As a senior member of the Development Team, the Director will also help develop and execute fundraising strategies around volunteers and volunteerism, most specifically corporate partnerships and individual volunteer opportunities. She/he/they will be responsible for preparing reports on volunteerism throughout the agency, managing the department budget and funding, and generally supporting the expansion of volunteerism throughout the agency as well as the agency's visibility in New York. This is a hybrid role with expectations around regular site visits and staffing of volunteer programs; travel throughout the five boroughs required as well as occasional nights and weekends to support programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (List the functions that are essential to achieve the goals):
  • As a senior member of the Development Team, develop and implement strategies to engage volunteers in the agency's work.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers
  • Ensure volunteers are effectively recruited, shepherded through application and screening processes, appropriately matched, and followed up with consistently. Oversee tracking and reporting efforts; make improvements to departmental processes and systems as needed. Assess and address training, orientation, and education needs of volunteers.
  • Provide training and resources, as needed, to colleagues throughout the agency around working with volunteers.
  • Share success stories, develop marketing and outreach materials, and otherwise raise the profile of volunteerism.

CORE COMPETENCIES for the position include:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; great customer services skills.
  • Strong engagement skills, with both individuals, community organizations, and corporate groups.
  • Strategic planning skills, including developing long-term plans for engaging partners
  • Team player and excellent collaborative skills.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED (List all that is required to achieve this position):
  • Bachelors Degree and/or 5+ years relevant work experience.
  • Ability to keep many balls in the air at once.
  • Spanish or other languages a plus.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends on a limited basis to fulfill job responsibilities. Travel between the five boroughs.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE (List what the desire to reach goals):
  • Five years of related experience, including knowledge of development/fundraising and appropriate solicitation techniques
  • This individual must have the ability to work individually on projects as well as be a team player.

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED (List the computer skills needed):
  • Use of various databases (Samaritan, Raisers Edge).

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required; some local travel.
  • To perform the essential functions of this job, the candidate is routinely required to sit ( 90% of the time) and stand ( 10% of the time)
