Our program was established to foster and propel the groundbreaking innovation that emerges from Stanford University. We carefully select inventions and ideas with the greatest potential to revolutionize global health and biomedicine. Once selected for Catalyst, we provide comprehensive support to these projects, enabling them to evolve and prepare for commercialization through pilot projects, prototyping, deployment in active health systems, business planning, market analysis, and connections with the investment community. We leverage the full range of resources and capabilities at Stanford, including the University and our health systems, Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children's Health. The Catalyst program was formed as part of the Stanford Medicine Integrated Strategic Plan and supported by the Dean of the School of Medicine and the two CEOs of the health systems.Joining Stanford Medicine Catalyst means being at the forefront of inventing the future and making a tangible impact on the lives of patients worldwide. As a Discovery & Translation Associate, you will play a critical role in the creation and development of innovation projects within Stanford. You will directly engage with an extraordinary range of individuals and provide expert level consultation throughout their time in the Catalyst program. Your work will focus on identifying and validating medical innovations within the Stanford Medicine clinical areas, and you will work directly with project teams to help them realize their full potential as a standalone business outside of Stanford.The primary responsibility of the Discovery & Translation Associate will be to weigh in on the selection process for candidate projects, evaluating their potential for success. This role will be a partner for strategic decision-making involving the selection of inventions / ideas as Catalyst Projects. In addition to project selection, there will be opportunities to contribute to the continued development of selected projects. Together, we will shape the future of healthcare innovation and improve the lives of countless patients.This is a hybrid position and you will be onsite two to three days a week in Redwood City and/or Palo Alto.Duties include*:

    Execute on the Catalyst Evaluation process for projects seeking entry into the Catalyst program.
      Conduct market analysis and competitive analysis as part of due diligence.Review and evaluate business plans, IT systems, and data analysis.Ensure alignment with Stanford University and perform SWOT analysis.Aggregate relevant data for the Discovery team's due diligence process.Provide valuable insights during discussions about potential Catalyst projects.
    Provide recommendations to Catalyst leadership
      Build executive reports and slide decks for the Executive Director and Discovery team.Complete due diligence research and provide recommendations to achieve or modify program or function goals.Gather and aggregate data to analyze cohort trends.
    Represent Catalyst within the department, unit, school and outside the school with industry partners to develop and manage outreach strategy. Maintain strong relationships through persistent relational touch points, communication and compliance to build partnerships on current and future Catalyst project teams innovations.
      Allocate resources, provide information, training, and support.Represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Collaborate with Stanford Medicine Communications team to ensure effective representation of Stanford Medicine Catalyst in external and internal communications.
  • Support current cohort projects.
    • Create competitive analysis and business plan formation.
    • Synthesize information from various sources and provide market reports on healthcare fields relevant to Stanford Medicine Catalyst project teams.
    • Prepare cohorts with pro forma projections, VC roadshow material, go-to market strategies and marketability of the innovation, prior to meeting potential VC connections to ensure they achieve success in such presentations.

    Bachelor's in Business, Science, or related fieldMaster's degree in related fieldStrong technical / quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to executive complex analysisAbility to communicate effectively with senior management / executivesProficiency and / or experience with the following software: Google Suite, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Airtable, Smartsheets, Mural, Lucidchart, Tableau and Illustrator a plusExperience working in Salesforce or similar Client Relationship Management / Marketing (CRM) softwareExperience managing projects / programs with successful delivery to deadlines
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
    Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.Relevant subject matter expertise.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
    Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.Occasionally use a telephone. Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $153,748 to $190,812 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
