Job Description
Job Summary:
The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing and overseeing safety programs while collaborating with leadership ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance. Key duties include implementing safety protocols, delivering training, investigating incidents, conducting audits, and collaborating with leadership to enhance workplace safety. The EHS Manager will drive compliance efforts and risk mitigation across job sites and facilities to maintain a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- EH&S Program Development & Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and manage EH&S programs (e.g., golden rules of safety, near miss program, lockout/tag out, confined space entry, forklift training).
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
- Recommend safety protocols, procedures and product safety features to reduce employee exposure to hazards (chemical, physical and biological).
- Interpret safety communications and provide recommendation on safety-inclusive language.
- Analyze incident data, recommend corrective actions, and update safety policies as needed.
- Administer safety certification processes and lead safety programs.
- Training Coordination:
- Coordinate and deliver EH&S training related to safety laws, regulations and equipment use.
- Manage new employee health and safety orientations.
- Maintain systems that for tracking training records and compliance, scheduling classes, tracking attendance, and following up on outstanding training
- Oversee CDL driver compliance, including drug tests, medical certifications, and driver reviews.
- Safety Audits & Inspections:
- Conduct safety inspections for construction and facility projects.
- Perform industrial hygiene assessments and ensure compliance and compose safety audit reports.
- Accident Investigation & Reporting:
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; recommend and implement preventative measures.
- Support the Near Miss program and provide data-driven safety improvements.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Collaborate with the Safety Council on EH&S initiatives and provide expert guidance on safety matters.
- Participate in safety committees and provide back-up support for other EH&S roles.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Monitor safety licenses, CEUs, and manage EH&S-related tickets in the tracking system.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualification
- Education:
- Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in EH&S compliance or safety program administration within utilities, construction or related field. Leadership experience preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively, managing conflicting demands, and handle deadlines or emergencies effectively.
- Travel:
- Valid ME driver's license required. Ability to travel when necessary for safety inspections, audits, training, and related tasks.
- Work Environment:
- Position involves both office work and fieldwork at company facilities and project sites.
