The Unanue Graduate Career Advancement Center at the Miami Herbert Business School is actively searching for an experienced Executive Director. This leader will spearhead the Unanue Graduate Career Advancement department, shaping a visionary strategy aimed at enhancing career outcomes for graduate business students. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, development, and administration of comprehensive career advancement services. Furthermore, they will actively foster relationships with external organizations and professionals to create diverse opportunities in employment, internships, co-op programs, and experiential learning.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Strategic Planning and Visionary Leadership:

  • Collaborate with the Vice Dean of Graduate Programs to formulate and execute a strategic vision in alignment with long-term objectives. Foster a culture of collaboration and results-driven operations within the career advancement team. This includes recruitment, training, supervision, performance evaluation, goal setting, and strategic planning.
  • Ensure an engaged staff team that commits to and practices the principles and values of the Miami Herbert Business School

Employer Relations:
  • Lead efforts to establish and nurture relationships with industry partners and act as the primary liaison for career-related activities between the University and the professional world. \
  • Drive year-over-year growth of employer partners through strategic initiatives and relationship-building activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with corporate partners, recruiters, and industry leaders to optimize job placement opportunities. Collaborate with these entities to create internships and job opportunities in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Lead the team responsible for building and nurturing relationships with both existing and new corporate partners. Collaborate across Miami Herbert and University of Miami departments with an external focus, such as Executive Education, Continuing Studies, Advancement, and Alumni Relations. Ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to external engagement efforts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current and future trends in corporate, non-profit, and governmental talent management strategies, including recruitment, retention, and development. Utilize this knowledge to build and strengthen relationships for Miami Herbert and provide students with programming that reflects these trends.

Career Counseling and Coaching:
  • Head a team of career advisors, providing personalized coaching on self-assessment, job search strategies, and skill development.
  • Ensure service standards and student learning outcomes through the oversight of experiential learning opportunities. Stay updated on industry trends to provide informed guidance.
  • Coach students in Graduate Business programs, maintaining a book of coaching clients. Tailor coaching services to specific programs such as alumni, Professional MBA, MHA, etc.

Experiential Learning:
  • Ensure service standards and student learning outcomes through the oversight of experiential learning opportunities. Stay updated on industry trends to provide informed guidance.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Experiential Learning, Spearhead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that enhance experiential learning opportunities for graduate students within the School of Business, fostering partnerships with industry leaders, alumni, and other stakeholders to create impactful and innovative learning experiences.
  • Work closely with the Director of Experiential Learning, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the seamless integration of hands-on experiences into the graduate curriculum. Collaborate with the Director to identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with businesses, organizations, and professionals to support students in gaining real-world insights and skills relevant to their career paths.

Program Development:
  • Develop, implement, and refine innovative career advancement programs that meet the evolving needs of students and alumni, while staying current on industry trends in career advancement at other top 50 business schools.
  • Implement marketing strategies, manage online resources, and leverage technology to enhance networking and connections. Additionally, focus on increasing student engagement in career events.
  • Develop comprehensive student employment profiles, organize career-related events, and occasionally attend conferences and workshops outside regular hours.
  • Coach students in Graduate Business programs, maintaining a book of coaching clients. Tailor coaching services to specific programs such as alumni, Professional MBA, MHA, etc.

Data Analysis, Reporting, and Budget Management
  • Utilize data analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of career advancement programs, generating reports that track placement rates, highlight alumni success stories, and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Ensure accurate and current records of student engagement and outcomes using the appropriate system and technology, maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of students' progress and achievements.
  • Develop and manage the Career Advancement department budget efficiently to achieve outlined goals.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:
  • Collaborate with faculty and industry partners to create customized opportunities that align with student career aspirations. Foster strong relationships with students and alumni, providing personalized support, advice, and maintaining an alumni network. (Foster partnerships at the school)
  • Work closely with academic departments, admissions, and stakeholders to seamlessly integrate career advancement initiatives into the student experience. Collaborate with university-wide career services initiatives.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree required

MBA or relevant Business Master's degree preferred

An appropriate combination of relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Certification and Licensing:

Coaching certification preferred

Experience:

Minimum 8 years of relevant experience (i.e. corporate/industry, recruiting, career coaching)

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
  • Extensive knowledge of project management including program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of graduate and professional school admissions processes and requirements; ability to design programs to address pre-professional school student needs.
  • Expert knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
