Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst - Hybrid

Job Summary
Under administrative direction, perform extensive analysis and development functions related to real property and capital project accounting, plant funds administration, and year-end close activities; provide functional support in other University Accounting and Financial Reporting areas; and assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility. Work environment could have frequent interruptions and distractions that rely upon effective multi-tasking & flexibility. Ability to work under pressure is required to perform a variety of responsibilities and ensure daily operational needs are met.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate plant fund administration, including chart maintenance, monitoring budget balances and overdrafts, reconciling Capital Development Board funds, processing fund transfers, reviewing fund attributes, and other aspects of administering plant funds.
- Assist in maintaining schedules of construction and real property additions to facilitate the completion of year-end supporting schedules and accurate and timely updates to the SCT Banner financial system, which includes posting adjusting entries to asset records in the appropriate modules.
- Review and reconcile fixed asset and general ledger real property asset transactions and create attributes to ensure accuracy and compliance with University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist in the control and maintenance of real property records in the Banner Fixed Asset module to assure appropriate capitalization and calculation of depreciation in accordance with State and University policy.
- Review disbursements from plant funds subsequent to year-end to validate year-end accrual calculations are accurate.
- Coordinate with campus construction units to eliminate overdrafts in plant funds, resolve posting errors, post adjustments, transfer funds, assign proper capitalization designation to projects, and administer other campus construction transactions.
- Coordinate and share information with campus construction units and University Accounting and Financial Reporting staff to facilitate the proper recording of real property assets.
- Prepare or assist other units in the preparation of complex financial reports and schedules for submission to Central Management Services, which include: annual fixed asset reports and monthly plant fund activity reports.
- Assist, as needed, the Office of Treasury Operations, Agricultural Property Services, personnel with the preparation of schedules reflecting land usage confirmations, correspondence, and vouchers for payments in-lieu-of real estate taxes. Coordinate with various county officials and University Counsel the filing of real estate tax exemption applications and annual Certificates of Status of Exempt Property. Obtain copies of leases and income information with for-profit organizations and submit them to the Champaign County Assessor.
- Oversee land acquisition data processes and elements, including tract numbers. Administer the University land data base, which includes obtaining clarification and details from campus real estate offices as needed and reconciling entries to the SCT Banner Fixed Asset module. Assist other UAFR staff, if needed, with managing the reconciliation process of campus location code database tables to the Banner Location Code Table. Serve on University, Campus, and/or University Accounting committees/teams as assigned. Perform other assigned duties appropriate for the position of Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst.
Minimum Qualifications1. Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience. OR Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA). OR Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.

2. Working knowledge of SCT Banner Finance modules
3. Knowledge of State of Illinois reporting requirements
4. Database management experience
5. Experience working with higher education and/or other fund accounting systems

- 1. Demonstrated analytical skills to perform financial analysis of business transactions and perform complex reconciliations.
- 2. Knowledge about querying and reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Access).
- 3. Effective technical skills.
- 4. Ability to produce complex financial reports that have a professional presentation and provide detailed information with clarity.
- 5. Strong verbal and written communications skills to effectively present information and respond to colleagues and others seeking guidance and/or clarification about issues.
- 6. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- 7. Ability to multi-task and produce accurate, detail-oriented work to meet stringent deadlines.
- 8. Creativity in problem-solving and exercising independent judgment and discretion.
- 9. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5000 - Accounting Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 12/17/2024. System Office jobs such as this one are not eligible for the Referral Program.

The budgeted salary range for the position is $59,000 to $62,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
