This is a position supporting MGB Pathology Informatics. Pathology Informatics drives the application of clinical bioinformatics, digital pathology, and other clinical/research/education informatics needs in the department. We develop and leverage software solutions and integrated data to improve the delivery of patient care.
The successful candidate will be part of a team dedicated to ensuring the reliability, high availability, security, and scalability of our information technology infrastructure and provides system-level support of multi-user operating systems, hardware and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Pathology client PC systems and applications for both on-site and off-site locations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of fostering relationships and collaborations between various teams and must possess excellent interpersonal skills, along with strong oral and written communication abilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with build, mapping and testing tasks related to Laboratory systems.
• Provide phone, e-mail, on-site, and off-site direct user support as required.
• Review daily reports, assist with problem resolution in partnership with Laboratory staff.
• Investigates, plans, implements, tests, and debugs operating system software.
• Troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, and connectivity problems, including user access and component configuration.
• Review daily service queues, evaluate and triage user requests/issues.
• Install patches / upgrades to Desktop / Office based applications.
• Monitor system performance and ensure all components are operating at optimal levels.
• Provide training and documentation instructions for hardware and software operation for clinical systems.
• Performs problem resolution and provides on-call support for computer/network systems.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Ability to manage priorities independently
• Required to participate in intra and inter-departmental project teams as needed.
• Demonstrating "Customer Service" philosophy when interacting with employees and business partners.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, and other hospital personnel, to facilitate day to day operations.
• Collects information to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems.
• Ensures all Department, Hospital, JCAHO, and OIG compliance guidelines are met.
• Perform regular maintenance and updates to hardware and software components.
• Administer and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Implement and maintain network security protocols to protect against unauthorized access and breaches.
• Monitor network traffic and optimize network performance.
• Install, configure, and maintain server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, etc.).
• Manage virtualization environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.) and cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness for critical systems.
• Implement and maintain security measures to protect the organization's infrastructure and data.
• Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users and other IT teams.
• Investigate and resolve infrastructure-related issues in a timely manner.
• Document troubleshooting procedures and maintain knowledge base resources.
• Collaboration and Project Management:
• Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to plan and implement infrastructure projects.
• Participate in the evaluation and deployment of new technologies and solutions.
• Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• 1-3 years clinical application and/or health (allied, direct care) professional experience
• Familiarity with Laboratory operations a plus (LIS experience preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to work with various software systems.
• Bachelors Degree in Life sciences/Computer Science/Information Technology
Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
• Required proficiency in high-performance computing and networking, both on-premises and in the cloud.
• Required proficiency in server/virtual machine management and operating systems, specifically Linux and Windows.
• Required proficiency in server, racking, and network configuration.
• Required proficiency in network security and firewall configurations.
• Strong administrative, analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
• Thrive in an autonomous role as well as a team player within Partners IS and the hospital community at large.
• Demonstrated ability to assimilate and understand new software
• Ability to understand the work environment and competing priorities
• Ability to plan and manage a project, its tasks, dependencies, team members, other resources and timeline; and to prioritize and delegate accordingly.
• Ability to provide 24x7 user support which may include direct user support in patient care areas
• Strong PC skills required, knowledge of PC applications, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite and Project, PowerPoint and Visio preferred.
• Ability to be flexible, versatile and adaptable in day-to-day activities conducted in a multi-site environment.

• Ability to relate job responsibilities to hospital operations and the strategic objectives of Mass General Brigham and respective institutions
Working Conditions:

• This position requires occasional local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences
• Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.
• Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
