Computershare has a tremendous opportunity for a Legal Affairs Assistant to join our growing team.

The Legal Affairs Assistant role is to advance Computershare's registered agent and compliance goals by mitigating risk, analyzing legal issues, managing litigation, and communicating with clients and vendors. The purpose of the Legal Affairs team is to support Computershare to meet its strategic objectives by expertly managing legal risk and providing effective and efficient legal solutions.
A role you will love
The Legal Affairs Assistant is responsible for managing and prioritizing legal documents in a fast-paced environment, assisting the Legal Affairs Manager with case management, and prioritizing tasks with critical deadlines. The Legal Affairs Assistant is also responsible for assisting the Legal and Industry teams with managing relationships with a network of vendors in the registered agent network.
Primary Accountabilities
- Establishing a professional and trusting relationship with clients and affiliates
- Analyzing business and legal risk
- Managing cases and assisting with case resolution
- Prioritizing and delivering on critical tasks with strict deadlines
- Effectively communicating with clients, vendors, affiliates, court clerks, process servers, law firms, and other professional external bodies
- Advising the Document Services team and Compliance team on legal document interpretation, corporate filing procedures, and risk mitigation
- Researching and drafting memoranda as required
- Creating professional template responses for teams to use in recurring scenarios
- Identifying trends and additional opportunities to create more efficient practices
- Serving as a conduit to internal business units and identifying opportunities to improve service delivery
- Maintaining functional knowledge of Computershare's processes, systems, products and services, and communicating enhancements and modifications to clients
- Being an ambassador for Computershare within the industry
What will you bring to the role? The ideal candidate should possess/exhibit the following:
- Knowledge of civil litigation and general corporate law and governance with a minimum of 3 years working in the corporate services industry, a commercial or civil litigation law firm, or for the judiciary.
- Paralegal experience in both the public and private sector preferred.
- A good understanding of corporate entity formation and the civil litigation process, preferably with experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, court or clerk specialist, or judicial assistant.
- Ability to apply commercial overlay to technical legal issues. You will have an ability to prioritize day to day activity (both routine and non-routine) with own areas of responsibility and to manage own time and available resources to enable the successful completion of individual and team objectives. You will have sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information, as well as be adaptable and to take on a variety of tasks.
- Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, mature attitude, and ability to work independently. You will be results and solutions focused, be commercially aware and an analytical problem solver.
- Willingness to work with other departments, primarily the Document Services team, understanding the critical nature and prioritization of various tasks.
- Good comprehension, communication, and clear and concise legal writing and presentation skills. You will have an ability to work with internal and external stakeholders and create strong relationships. You will also be professional, have tact and diplomacy when handling confidential information and sensitive matters, as well as be self motivated, flexible and proactive.
