Our practice recognizes the unique challenges of public entities providing consulting and internal auditing for various public sector entities, including state, local, and tribal governments as well as public utilities and K-12 schools. This role specifically on the Baker Tilly Municipal Advisory team will assist communities with meeting their public finance needs, including capital planning, issuance of municipal bonds, developing incentive packages and state reporting requirements.

What you will do:
  • Assist public sector entities, mainly cities, towns, counties, redevelopment commission and economic development organizations, on their public finance needs and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Assist on management consulting projects for public sector organizations through financial management reporting, budget preparation and analysis, capital project planning, comprehensive financial planning, issuance of municipal bonds, utility rate studies, and related client services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Gathering data
    • Preparing financial reports, research, and analysis
    • Participating in client and working group meetings
    • Presenting information to groups and clients
  • Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs.
  • Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients.
  • Enjoy friendships, social activities and team outings that encourage a work-life balance.
  • Occasional travel and mostly same-day travel within the state.
  • Serve on client projects and assist in management of client relationships.
  • Document and analyze processes, internal controls, and workflow to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure alignment of resources - people, process, and technology - with key strategic goals and priority service areas.
  • Develop tactical approaches to implement changes in strategy, service delivery, technology and/or policy.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree within business, finance, accounting, or public administration, MBA/MPA desirable but not a requirement.
  • Five (5) plus years of progressive related consulting experience, including at least one (1) year serving as a project manager in managing similarly sized projects as described
  • Knowledge of public sector operations broadly, specific knowledge or experience in a public sector setting - state or local government, public utility, and K-12 schools.
  • Demonstrated management, analytical, organization, interpersonal, project management, communication skills, and highly developed Microsoft Suite skills (Word, Excel) required.
  • Ability to provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning in order to stay current regarding applicable strategies, see the "big picture" as well as the details, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment, and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of duties.
