Martha's Vineyard Hospital is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital located on beautiful Martha's Vineyard Island, just 7 miles of the coast of Cape Cod Massachusetts. We provide year-round health care support to island residents, as well as a seasonal surge during the summer months. We are a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB) healthcare system. Materials Management Manager

The Manager of Materials Management has full managerial responsibility for the following areas: Inventory Control, Receiving & Distribution, and Supply Chain Operational Support. This position manages a broad range of activities associated with the development, implementation and maintenance of daily operations, service levels, logistics and tasks within the department. The Manager will develop, communicate, and enforce departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position will work closely with MVH departments to deliver quality services throughout the supply chain continuum. Incumbent will actively support the day-to-day operations, focusing on productivity, customer service, staff support/management, and areas of safety/cleanliness and vendor management. Coordinates a broad range of activities associated with the development, implementation, and delivery of operational support for the hospital. The Manager will establish and maintain credibility with other department managers that is needed to integrate, in a seamless way, all parts of the materials acquisition process including requisition training, delivery, statistical tracking, operational support, logistics and with the assistance of Infection Prevention Program Manager and Department Directors, the use of products and services. Works directly with MVH Directors, MGB MM Directors, MGB Supply Chain, and all hospital staff to continually analyze current operations and make recommendations for improvement. Teamwork with key departments such as Nursing, OR, ED, Infusion, Dialysis, Bio-Medical, Finance and Information Systems is key to the success of this position.

Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures (P&P) for areas of responsibility. Assures all staff are appropriately trained and provided with the tools necessary to comply with hospital P&P. Creates, and recommends for implementation and enforcement, all MM P&P. Enforces hospital wide P&P

• Manages, evaluates and rewards personnel within areas of responsibility. Accountable for leadership, training, and professional mentoring of personnel. Completes staff performance evaluations on a timely basis in compliance with Hospital-wide policy.

• Assists with the preparation and maintenance the Capital and Operating Budgets for areas of responsibility. Assures compliance with budgets and targets in all areas.

• Responsible for effective training programs to meet JCAHO, OSHA, other regulatory agency, and Departmental requirements. Develops and monitors effectiveness using routine statistics on a monthly basis for all areas of control.

• Assures high quality of work is achieved from staff. Recommends appropriate changes within areas of responsibility to maintain and improve operational effectiveness.

• Understand organizational goals and objectives. Develops departmental goals and objectives in support of MVH goals and objectives.

• Works cooperatively with MVH departments to provide an effective overall environment for staff, visitors, and patients.

• Coordinates with other key departments such as Nursing, OR, ED, Infusion, Dialysis, Bio-Medical, Finance and Information Systems to maintain and improve the integrity of the supply process.

• Maintains positive relationships with local vendors, especially in terms of facilitating payment.

• Ensures that the department is adequately staffed during normal operating hours. Maintains staff schedules with appropriate lunch/break times. Monitors the completion of work assignments.

• Recommends appropriate changes within areas of responsibility to maintain and improve operational effectiveness

• Monitors the handling of all customer inquiries/complaints. Tracks and acknowledges department and individual employee successes.

• Performs all other duties as requested.

Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate degree or a minimum of 7 years progressive experience in a healthcare setting.
MBA preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years' experience at a management level is required.
