This position will work within the hours of Monday throughThursday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This position will only work August 1 throughMay 31. Overall goal of the Specialist is to recruit new students into theprogram, assist and intervene with support services for academic and retentionsuccess, and provide outreach about the program to the institution. The Mathportion of this position will provide on-going tutoring in all areas of Mathincluding developmental Math through college level Math (special topics:fundamental algebraic concepts, computation with fractions, base levelstatistics, probabilities, hypothesis testing, linear regression, etc.).Ability to tutor in physics is a plus. This position will assess student skilllevels, design individual programs of study, assist students through thedevelopmental and college level math classes, evaluate the progress andfacilitate the student's ongoing progress through their requirements. Additionally,the Specialist will empower students (low-income, first generation college, and disabled) with academic and personal tools and skills that willhelp them persist in college until attaining a degree. Essential Job Functions: 1. Recruit new students through classroom visits and other paths.2. Assist in developing and implementing STEM participant retention and graduation strategies to include: a) Monthly follow ups and check-ins. b) Weekly monitoring of grades and contact of students with grades of C, D, or F. c) Acts as liaison between students and faculty to assist them with their academic success and create channels of support.d) Prepares and implements intervention plans to work with at-risk students.3. Collaborate with all departments to ensure up to date information about campus resources are distributed. 4. Provide Project SOAR students with subject matter tutoring and assistance with challenging concepts. a) All areas of Math including developmental Math through college level Math.b) Maintain a working knowledge and expertise of Math computer software systems that are utilized in math classes.5. Utilizes data to guide interventions and monitors effectiveness and student progress.6. Design individualized programs to assist students in basic skill development.7. Design, monitor, and coordinate the tutoring procedures and develop a tracking system.8. Design and teach academic related workshops each semester.9. Complete in a timely fashion required time & effort reports, timesheets, and other recordkeeping forms.10. Coordinate with Math instructors to have up to date resources, such as books, syllabi, software, etc. 11. Network with college instructors to recruit new students and to develop a flow of communication to keep up with the latest requirements and techniques. 12. Network with college staff and faculty to do ongoing outreach on campus to make the program known.13. Evaluate the students' progress and provide intervention and feedback.14. Providing feedback to instructors about where a student is struggling.15. Providing feedback to the Director regarding issues or success stories.16. Document on-going student contact logs via computerized database.17. Serve on college and professional committees as requested by Director.18. Assigned extensive multiple work assignments.19.
