Summary

TheDivision of Microbiology, Tulane National Primate Research Center has anexciting opportunity for a part-time Medical Research Technician. Under thedirection and supervision of the Principal Investigator, this individual willwork in active research projects to study viral pathogenies and cure research.Primarily, the technician will perform standard molecular biology, immunology,and tissue culture techniques such as ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry, andimmunohistochemistry. The candidate will also assist ordering supplies,maintaining equipment, and general laboratory maintenance. The ability to workwithin a team, flexibility and responsibility are essential for this position.Necessary training on laboratory and biosafety procedures will be provided.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor'sDegree (BS)
• 0-2 yearsof laboratory experience required

Preferred Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree (BS) in any oneof the following streams of sciences: biology, microbiology, immunology,molecular biology, or infectious disease and biomedical science.
• Experience with laboratory techniquesfor molecular and cellular biology, such as, PCR, cell culture and microscopy.
• Knowledge of safe working principlesin laboratory space and sterile techniques.
• Familiarity with basic computationaltools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.

SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVECONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:

Ability to complete andpass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in theUniversity's Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUGSCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMALTISSUES:

Selected candidates mustcomplete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as acondition of employment. For identifiedjobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigationrequired occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will beconducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
