Job Summary
The Molding Technician cleans mold bases and associated hardware, inspects molds and associated components for serviceability, appropriately configures the molds for proper part manufacturing, and then installs the mold onto the desired injection-molding machine. This position also coordinates scheduling activities with the Materials Manager to ensure molds are sequenced according to Master Scheduling requirements. The Set-up Technician uses the electronic mold book, Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Mold 24i software to efficiently perform the duties of the position.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- On a daily basis, coordinates mold and shop order scheduling requirements with Materials Manager
- Monitors Mold 24i data to track mold availability status on all injection-molding machines
- Uses information from the electronic mold book to ensure proper part configuration of the mold
- References on-line material safety data sheet (MSDS) information when using lubricants, cleaners, etc.
- Responsible for cleaning, inspection and setup of production mold bases and appropriate components
- Creates Fault Reports on molds that require repair and/or modifications
- Uses appropriate company supplied equipment when removing and installing molds into the injection molding machines
- Continuously communicates with Engineering, Materials/Manufacturing Manager, and Process Technicians to inform them of any potential impact to schedule due to mold issues
- Uses appropriate hand tools & torque wrenches to assemble molds
- Uses appropriate safety equipment at all times (i.e. cranes, lifts, goggles, etc.)
- Ensures the immediate work area is always clean, well organized and free from potential safety hazards
- All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of 1 year of setup or mold making experience and/or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of three years of experience working with industrial machinery and automobiles is considered in combination with education
- Capable of operating autonomously under all circumstances
- Ability to accurately read basic mechanical drawings
- Proficient in using standard measuring equipment such as micrometers, gauge pins, scales, etc.
- Proficient in use of normal hand tools and torque wrenches
- Interface with Engineering/Tool Room regarding mold base, and/or mold component improvement and/or repairs
- Mechanical aptitude and abilities
- Well developed written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business and technical procedures.
- Basic math skills (i.e. ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
Computer Skills:- Proficient in use and navigation of Windows operating system in a networked environment. Ability to use advanced functions in most standard office applications. Functional understanding of Outlook, Excel and Word. Proficient, once trained in the IFS ERP System navigation as necessary for job functions.

Working Conditions and Physical DemandsManufacturing environment. Capable of working in a standing position in an 8-hour day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, occasionally exposed to high and/or precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals and where plastic injected parts are produced and packaged (i.e. plastic dust present, noise up to 80 db, etc.) The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with the assistance of other technicians and/or company supplied equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must wear shop coat, hair net, facial hair net, and show covers when applicable. Must wear protective gloves to handle parts when applicable.
