The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for an open (tenure/clinical track) faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences for a position in Soft Tissue Surgery.
Position Overview
The Ohio State University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for one full-time faculty position in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in clinical service and teaching. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty certification by the ACVS or ECVS will be required. Individuals who will be ACVS board eligible are encouraged to apply. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates.
The successful candidate will join a distinguished small animal surgery program that currently includes eleven ACVS diplomates, 1 Fellow in Surgical Oncology and 10 surgery residents in addition to a robust small animal clinical faculty (https://vet.osu.edu/clinical-sciences/clinical-specialties/small-animal-services). The Veterinary Medical Center has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including diagnostic imaging (128-slice CT, 3-Tesla MRI), an independent rehabilitation service and surgical capabilities. All clinical facilities, including the surgical suites were completely renovated in 2017.
Clinical responsibilities include general soft tissue surgery including emergency surgery, wound management and some oncologic surgery. Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, surgical skills, laboratories, and clinical teaching of small animal soft tissue surgery to professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 65-70% time in clinics, including clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, yet clinical research, publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track candidates are given at least 50% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing an intramurally and extramurally funded research program that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Every faculty member is expected to participate in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. There is a mentoring program for new faculty members to support their academic development as teachers and investigators. There are extensive opportunities for faculty to develop collaborative research endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College and across the University. The College supports an active Clinical Trials program (https://vet.osu.edu/vmc/cto) to assist faculty with clinical research. Excellent collaborative opportunities are available in the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine within the College as well as other units across the University campus, including the comprehensive OSU Wexner Medical Center which is within walking distance of the College.
