Job Title:Physician - Department of Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgeon (Open Rank/Track Faculty)Department:

The Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery is seeking an exceptional academic Endocrine Surgeon to join our elite team of experts at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) along with the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (The James), one of 49 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. The ideal candidate will provide exemplary endocrine multidisciplinary patient care, have a discernable academic and research track record, as well as be an enthusiastic educator. A strong interest in benign and malignant adrenal disease is desired but not required. The position requires a strong participatory interest in service commitment to relevant local, regional, national, and international professional organizations and programs. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The candidate will join a robust Endocrine Surgery Section with a high-volume practice in all aspects of thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disease, including robotic expertise. The group has a Comprehensive Adrenal Program and one of the busiest robotic adrenalectomy programs in the country. The Ohio State thyroid cancer group is particularly strong with a longstanding commitment to endocrine cancer research, which started in the 1970s with the work of Ernest Mazzaferri, MD, and continues to this day. The multidisciplinary program is comprised of world-renown physicians in Surgery, Endocrinology and Medical Oncology and has previously been supported by NIH Program Project grant and SPORE grant funding.

The Division of Surgical Oncology at The Ohio State University is a leader in cancer care, education, and research, setting a national standard in multidisciplinary, patient-centered surgical oncology. Known for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration, the Division is part of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, one of the nation's premier cancer centers and the third largest cancer hospital in the country. The Division is home to a world-class team of surgical oncologists who specialize in the full spectrum of complex cancers, including gastrointestinal, hepatopancreatobiliary, breast, endocrine, melanoma, and sarcoma. Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care: Provide expert surgical care in the management of benign and malignant endocrine conditions, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and evidence-based approaches.

  • Education: Participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows, including endocrine surgery fellowship training, if applicable. The candidate will contribute to curriculum development, lectures, and hands-on training sessions.
  • Research: Engage in meaningful research initiatives in the field of endocrine surgery. Opportunities are available for both basic science and clinical research, with support for grant writing, publications, and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Program Development: Work collaboratively to expand the endocrine surgery program, enhancing the clinical footprint and further solidifying the division as a center of excellence in endocrine surgery.
  • Quality Improvement and Leadership: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and committees to promote patient safety and outcomes, with opportunities for leadership roles within the division and department.

Requirements

  • M.D. or equivalent who are American Board of Surgery eligible or certified in general surgery;
  • Completion of a fellowship in surgical oncology or AAES fellowship in endocrine surgery;
  • Academic track record with a focus on research, teaching, and program development in endocrine surgery;
  • Eligible for a State of Ohio Medical License;
  • Qualify for an academic appointment - Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank)
- Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
