2025-2026/2027 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology

Neuropsychological Assessment Clinic

Salem Hospital

The Neurodevelopmental Clinic (NDC) within the Neuropsychological Assessment Center of Salem Hospital is seeking candidates for 2025-2026 postdoctoral fellowships in pediatric neuropsychology. Fellows can extend their residency a second year to meet eligibility requirements for board certification. A second year is offered to fellows who evidence the ability to meet position requirements and includes participation in MGH seminars.

Within the NDC, fellows will work with a pediatric and young adult population, honing skills in assessment, diagnosis, and intervention of individuals aged 4 through early 20s. The NDC fellowship involves training and supervision in neuropsychological, psychological, and psycho-educational assessment as well as clinical interviewing, provision of feedback, and consultation to referral sources and schools. Patients are referred by a number of collaborators including families and caregivers, schools, pediatricians, neurologists, therapists, psychiatrists, and state agencies. Many referrals are internal from Salem Hospital's large psychiatry department, which includes a pediatric inpatient unit, an adolescent partial hospital program, and a busy outpatient department. Referral questions are varied and include ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, language/communication disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, and trauma. A percentage of individuals are referred with complex medical histories including post-concussion syndrome, seizure disorders, in utero substance exposure, and genetic disorders.

The goal of the training program is to assist fellows in developing independence in all tasks associated with assessment, including understanding how to navigate insurance, designing targeted assessments, analyzing and integrating complex data, being efficient writers, and providing clear and practical feedback and recommendations. Emphasis is placed on patient/family-centered care and offering individualized, meaningful results that are readily understood by all stakeholders. The training program follows a scientist-practitioner model with 60% of time engaged in clinical work, including face-to-face patient care and report writing, and 40% of time spent in weekly supervision, seminars, staff meetings, and other educational endeavors (attending grand rounds, reviewing relevant research, improving writing skills, etc.). Additional opportunities may be available to participate in a multidisciplinary clinic in collaboration with MGB Spaulding Outpatient Center for Children Salem, to receive supervision in assessment of toddlers, and to provide supplemental supervision to 4th and 5th year interns.

Salem Hospital is located in Salem, MA, a lively city with numerous restaurants, green spaces, and beaches; a world class art museum; and unique culture and history. Additionally, it is easy to travel by car, train or ferry to Boston or visit any of the coastal towns of the Northshore. Salem Hospital is a member of the Mass General Brigham Health Care Network that includes MGH, Brigham, McLean, Newton Wellesley Hospital, and other MGB Institutions. The position includes a $50,000/year stipend, generous hospital benefits, approximately 6 weeks of earned time (inclusive of hospital holidays, personal days, sick days, and vacation), and $1,500/year toward outside trainings. Fellows are additionally compensated for any billed hours that exceed productivity expectations. For interested candidates, there may be opportunities to divide time between the NDC and other psychiatry departments including the adolescent partial hospital program and the outpatient psychiatry department. Please indicate your interest in a split position when you apply. Successful candidates will have met requirements for graduation from an accredited doctoral program, have taken relevant coursework, and have experience in neuropsychological and psychological assessment with children and adolescents. Full-time employment at the hospital qualifies for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with interviews being conducted virtually in December. Please submit a cover letter, CV, 3 letters of reference, and 2 de-identified sample reports to Julia Morgan, PsyD, Training Director & Coordinator of Child and Adolescent Assessment (jmorgan11@mgb.org). https://salem.massgeneralbrigham.org/
