Your Role:

As the Principal Scientist, Chemistry Automation, you will be part of the Drug Discovery Automation group responsible for designing, managing, and leading the automated chemistry synthesis systems, part of our cutting-edge cloud lab infrastructure providing drug discovery and chemistry services to Pharmaceutical and Biotech customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry and experience developing and implementing automated chemistry synthesis systems and processes in pharmaceutical R&D settings.

You will be responsible to:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of new automated, high throughput chemistry synthesis systems for medicinal chemistry applications.
  • Transfer chemical synthesis procedure in to automated chemistry protocols, troubleshoot and optimize new synthetic methodologies in line with project chemistry requirements.
  • Plan and execute experiments to optimize the efficiency and reproducibility of chemistry synthesis systems, purification and characterization of intermediates and final compounds.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineers and software developers, procurement, sourcing, facilities, and project management.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure that chemistry synthesis processes are carried out accurately and consistently.
  • Lead automation project planning, timeline, milestones, success criteria and resources management including engineers, equipment, lab space etc. for new lab build-outs.
  • Develop and manage the laboratory's budget, ensuring that all expenditures are justified and aligned with the laboratory's goals and objectives.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, research findings, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • MS degree in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical engineering or related fields
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in small molecule synthesis, catalysis, flow chemistry, and chemistry automation in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Hand-on experience in automated synthesis workflows, including solid/liquid handling platforms, automated reaction execution tools and purification solutions.
  • Knowledge of analytical instrumentations such as HPLC/MS, SFC/MS, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex chemistry synthesis challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD
  • Strong experience in implementing automated chemistry synthesis processes, including the use of robotic systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of scheduling software design and integration across an automated laboratory environment.
  • Experience with automation project development from concept, preliminary and final design, through construction, installation and project closure strongly preferred with cost analysis.
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment, agile and face-paced teams
  • Self-driven, results-oriented leader with proven collaborative working style
