Job Summary:

The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering (IMSE) at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a Professor of Practice position in Industrial and Systems Engineering. The ideal candidate will possess significant professional experience in systems engineering or related fields and a passion for working in a collaborative environment. This non-tenure track position is designed to bring practical industry insights into the department and help grow faculty, students, and staff research opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in fostering local industry and government relationships.
  • Establish relationships with industry and government partners to facilitate research and academic opportunities.
  • Bring industry representatives into the classroom as guest speakers and collaborators.
  • Stay updated on industry practices to inform teaching and curriculum development.
  • Collaborate with faculty to revise and enhance the industrial and systems engineering curriculum based on industry needs.
  • Integrate emerging technologies and methodologies and develop training courses for working professionals.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop certificate training courses that could lead to academic degree credit.
  • Contribute to outreach and recruitment efforts to attract prospective students to the program.
  • Engage in professional development and continuous learning opportunities.
  • Engage in appropriate professional societies in the DFW area.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph. D. in Systems Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Significant professional experience (typically 10+ years) in industrial and systems engineering, preferably in a leadership or senior technical role.
  • A proven track record of applying industrial and systems engineering principles in industry projects and leading sponsored projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of leading and developing diverse teams to solve complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a director of an engineering research group.
  • Experience directing a research center and/or group.
  • Leadership position in professional societies and engagement with the industrial and systems engineering community.

Department Information:

The Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering (IMSE) Department Ph.D. offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering, as well as an M.S. in Engineering Management and multiple graduate certificate programs. It currently has about 500 students and 21 full-time faculty members, including 11 females and 10 males.

The UTA College of Engineering (COE) provides comprehensive engineering programs with 12 baccalaureate, 13 master's, and 9 doctoral programs. It has approximately 10,000 students. In addition to IMSE, there are the Departments of Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The COE's M.S. in Data Science currently enrolls nearly 250 students.
