The Cultural Learning Communities (CLC) at Highline College are transformative programs designed to provide Black and brown students with a sense of welcoming and belonging while fostering a supportive and inclusive community. Our programs are dedicated to creating an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Through intentional programming and events, we create opportunities for students to explore and celebrate their cultural identities. We organize workshops, guest speaker sessions, and community-building activities that promote dialogue, understanding, and appreciation for Black and Brown students' backgrounds and experiences. Our goal is to empower students to embrace their identities, develop a strong sense of self, and positively contribute to their communities.
Position Overview:

The Cultural Learning Communities (CLC) Program Coordinator will work under the general supervision of the CLC Program Director. As the Program Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the CLC Programs. This includes monitoring the purchasing requests within allotted budgets, providing program information and advice, promoting the program, attending meetings and conferences, collaborating with off-campus partnerships and organizations, and ensuring program goals are met. The Program Coordinator will also be involved in administrative tasks, such as preparing reports for grants and proposals, utilizing software for data management, performing complex scheduling, and leading a team of student staff. Additionally, they may be required to make public presentations related to the program's specialty.

This position is a classified full-time project employment position, dependent on grant funding, which is eligible for overtime.

Salary Information: The above salary reflects the starting step (Step C) Range 40 and ending step (Step M) salary for this classified position and includes a 5% King County compensation provision. As a newly employed classified employee, based on annual increments, it will take 5 years to reach Step L on the salary schedule, 11. years to reach step M on the salary schedule. This does not reflect any contractual changes, legislative mandated salary increases or Cost of Living Increases (COLA's) that may be approved in the future.

Essential Tasks

Reporting directly to the CLC Program Director, this position will:
Customer service and student support:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to students, parents, and the general public by creating a welcoming environment and providing responsive and accurate information in-person, virtually, by phone, or email;
  • Oversee reception/front desk operations, ensuring excellent customer service practices, organizing and maintaining a clean reception space, and making self-service forms accessible;
  • Oversee part-time hourly staff, including training new front desk staff and providing daily supervision and guidance;
  • Assist students with scheduling advising appointments with Cultural Learning Communities advisors or staff, as well as assisting with rescheduling when necessary;
  • Check in students for advising appointments and notify appropriate staff;
  • Support prospective Cultural Learning Communities students and families by providing information about enrollment steps, troubleshooting general issues, and collaborating with other departments to resolve problems;
  • Conduct presentations about the Cultural Learning Communities program during information sessions for prospective students, parents, and the general public;
  • Make referrals to various campus departments and services when appropriate:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Clerical/administrative and data support:
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure comprehensive record-keeping in compliance with college, state, and federal policies;
  • Process, code, and maintain Cultural Learning Communities forms/documents, such as applications, enrollment forms, fee waivers, and other documents;
  • Support the Director with tracking and maintaining departmental data and preparing reports;
  • Coordinate purchasing and maintain budget records for the department according to college and state policies;
  • Develop and maintain a communication plan for Cultural Learning Communities students and subgroups, sending timely information via email, phone, social media, and other communication modes;
  • Provide support with scheduling and organizing departmental events, including orientation sessions and workshops;
  • Update signage and web pages as needed;
  • Update instructions/SOPs for front desk operations as necessary.
Community and professional development:
  • Provide input on policies, processes, and procedures to advance the department, division, and college mission and objectives;
  • Actively engage in campus committees, meetings, events, trainings, and professional development opportunities to further develop professional competencies and knowledge;
  • Develop collaborative relationships across campus departments, high schools, and transfer institutions;
  • Represent the department and Highline College at campus and community events

  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally;
  • Provide exceptional customer service to students, parents/families, staff, faculty, and all other community organizations;
  • Demonstrate cultural competency skills, including a commitment to equity and anti-bias and an appreciation of a diverse environment;
  • Effectively communicate to colleagues, students, and other stakeholders verbally and written. Ability to articulate challenges/roadblocks and propose solutions with colleagues, and ability to articulate policies and procedures with students and families;
  • Effectively collaborate with colleagues as part of a team to work towards shared goals and solutions;
  • Work independently and take initiative with minimal direct supervision;
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities;
  • Demonstrate strong time management skills with an ability to manage timelines to meet deadlines;
  • Proficient with technology including Google Workspace and Microsoft software/applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduation or equivalent; AND
  • Two years of full-time clerical experience;
OR
  • Equivalent education/experience.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree or higher preferred.
