The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) is a newly formed and rapidly growing institute within the Dean of Research. As an independent research institute, HAI's mission is to advance AI research, education, policy and practice to improve the human condition. What's unique about HAI is that it balances diverse expertise and integration of AI across human-centered systems and applications in a setting that could only be offered by Stanford University. POSITION SUMMARY:
HAI's Program Manager for AI and Society manages a diverse portfolio of programming to foster better engagement with civil society and the Global Majority. HAI's mission is to promote human-centered AI globally that values diversity and interdisciplinarity. The ideal candidate is an experienced and dynamic leader who can help create and sustain programming that brings diverse voices into conversations around AI technologies' accessibility, development, and applications. The candidate will play a significant role engaging with external organizations, including non-governmental non-profit and civil society organizations, intergovernmental organizations, governmental stakeholders, as well as the general public. Reporting to the Director of Policy and Society, the Program Manager for AI and Society will work closely with HAI faculty and staff leaders to build and implement a global south initiative, and a civil society initiative that includes research, education, and outreach activities that can inform the design, development and governance of AI in a more inclusive manner. This includes running workshops, developing training programs, and researching and writing impact briefs and white papersThis is a two-year fixed-term position, and may be extended based on programmatic need and funding availability. This position is 100% FTE and benefits-eligible. This position will be based on Stanford's main campus and will be considered for an option of hybrid work arrangement, subject to operational need.     Lead the planning and operations for programs or functions that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.Evaluate programs or functions, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school by committing resources and provide information and/or training. Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.Manage and contribute e to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.May develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.Assess training needs and may develop associated training.May direct and/or supervise staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals.Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.Strong relevant subject matter knowledge.Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.Occasionally use a telephone.Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $116,849 to $148,275 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate including but not limited to geographic location, knowledge, skills and abilities, relevant education, depth and breadth of experience, performance; as well as other business and organization needs such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the minimum qualifications, departmental budget availability, and market and internal equity across the unit, department and reporting relationships.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
