CobbFendley is seekingan entry level Project Engineer (Engineer-In-Training) in our Lubbock, Texas office.

The successful candidate’s most important qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (EAC/ABET) required.
  • E.I.T. certification, with plans to pursue Professional Licensure. Proof of passed E.I.T exam required.
  • Minimum One (1) year of experience in civil engineering design and plan production.
  • Desire to work in the Municipal Department with emphasis on underground utility design, specifically, but not limited to, electrical ductbank design.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines.

Essential Functions:
  • Support CobbFendley Project Managers and Engineers with engineering design tasks for various projects.
  • Under direct supervision, performs standard Engineering work requiring application of standard established techniques and procedures to carry out tasks.
  • Perform civil engineering design, design calculations, analysis, field visits, plans, and interpret plans from other engineering related disciplines.
  • Assist Project Manager in providing project engineering design and task management for assigned projects in a variety of applications ranging from feasibility studies to final as-built maintenance records.
  • Prepare civil drawing packages, specifications, bill of materials, and estimates according to the project scope and schedule.
  • Work with Project Manager to identify and resolve conflicts. This includes assisting with clients to ensure drawing packages follow Client policies and guidelines, applicable codes, regulations, and rules.
  • Process checks or review of work product by Sr. Engineer or Project Manager. These checks are expected to become less frequent as you gain working knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
  • Utilize multiple software solutions to maximize the effectiveness and efficiencies of our services.
  • Become familiar with all services offerings provided by CobbFendley to ensure the ability to look for project opportunities for all services provided by our firm within one (1) year.
  • Travel to CobbFendley offices, client office, and project locations will be required as needed.
  • Work towards obtaining EIT and PE licensure within a timeframe designated by management to meet performance requirements.
  • Perform independent research and adapt to changing priorities. Work in a collaborative team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and fulfill responsibilities with integrity.
  • Be self-motivated to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
  • Work Environment. Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and outdoor environments for observations will be required.
  • Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
  • Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures), noise, and exposure to allergens (e.g., pollen, dust, cedar, sumac, poison ivy).
  • Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with handling electric power tools, cutting tools, plotting equipment, rotary paper cutter, and other equipment.
  • Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time.
  • Noise and Allergens. Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar.
  • Wildlife Hazards. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants.
PHYSICAL + COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
  • Seated and Standing Position. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation.
  • Mobility. Movement within the office and job sites, including navigating between floors, workstations, and outdoor environments with potential for uneven surfaces.
  • Neck Movement. Forward flexion, extension, or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens.
  • Repetitive Motion. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard.
  • Arm Movement. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally.
  • Object Handling. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder.
  • Cognitive Requirements. Selective attention, oral comprehension, oral expression, speech recognition, speech clarity, written comprehension, written expression, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, number facility, information ordering, category flexibility, flexibility of closure, fluency of ideas, and originality.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS
  • This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
  • CobbFendley’s standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.


WORK LOCATION FLEXIBILTY
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule once the training period is complete as established by the department.
  • This position requires in-person work and is ineligible for remote work.
  • This position is remote and provided as a condition of employment based on the Company’s business needs. Remote work is not guaranteed and hardships to CobbFendley and Employee performance may be considered.
