Quality Engineer - Metallurgy

The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world. We are looking for a Quality Engineer who will design, develop, build and evaluate metallurgical processes and iron castings.

What you will do:

  • Providing ownership, support, and advancement of key metallurgical processes in the production of iron castings.
  • Performing data extraction/analysis, failure analysis and problem solving, application of simulation tools and methods, and practical application of theory and concepts.
  • Testing products, analyzing test data, and making modifications to ensure compliance with specifications and requirements.
  • Building, testing, and modifying metallurgical processes in the foundry and lab using working models and/or theoretical models.
  • Performing quality reviews and internal audits; evaluating data and writing reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Monitoring engineering processes and products for adherence to company and regulatory standards and practices; participating in quality improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Analyzing statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
  • Recommending modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality.
Degree Requirement:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited Materials Science, Metallurgy, or equivalent program or equivalent experience.

Experience Requirement:

Professional experience in foundry, metallurgy/ met lab, or other manufacturing roles.

Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Level Extensive Knowledge:

Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of successful approaches and techniques for dealing with change; ability to adapt to a changing environment and be comfortable with change.

Relationship Management: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

Project Management: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Level Extensive Experience:

Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
