Position Purpose:
This Engineer will be a point of contact and subject matter expert with regard to the safe and proper management of reactive chemicals. The Engineer is also tasked with implementing all reactive chemical management activities both at the Sauget IL Facility.. The person holding this position will work in partnership with other Reactives and Environmental Health and Safety personnel on local and Branch projects. Reactive materials include, but are not limited to: explosives, shock sensitives, temperature sensitives, cylinders, controlled substances and toxins, and air & water reactives.

The individual will office at Sauget IL, location

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Reactive material research, employee training, equipment maintenance, development of material handling procedures, quote writing, paperwork creation, material processing, emergency response, discrepancy resolution, interaction with regulators, and on-site/off-site project management.
  • Problem solve with operations on process upsets and how to prevent them
  • Create procedures to safely and effectively process reactive materials.
    Be a source of technical knowledge for reactive chemicals.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • Five years of experience in managing hazardous materials is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • The candidate will also need to have strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities. Most important, the candidate will need to have a strong commitment to process and safety.
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate with others, especially those without a technical background.
  • Exceptional problem solving, verbal and written communication, presentation, and project management skills.
