Job Summary:
Burn Performance Improvement Coordinator for the Burn Program
The Coordinator Burn Nurse is Registered Nurse who functions under the director of the Burn Program Manager to coordinate clinical, operational, and performance improvement initiatives.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Clinical Activities
- Attends Burn Activations to serve as a resource person to enhance burn team performance and support concurrent process improvement.
- Works collaboratively with the Burn Team to assure coverage for time sensitive responsibilities and duties.
- Serves as a resource to patients and families as needed to ensure optimal provision of burn care provided to our patients
- Attends Multidisciplinary rounds with the Burn team
- Serves as a liaison to clinical areas responsible for the care of the burn patient. Process Improvement
- Facilitates multidisciplinary performance improvement activities in relation to burn patient care and outcomes
- Supports and assists in design of burn process improvement and continuous quality enhancement projects
- Performs concurrent medical record monitoring and data collection to include complications and quality metric fall outs
- Coordinates the Burn performance improvement program in conjunction with the Burn Program Manager and Burn Medical Director
- Evaluates both the clinical and Burn Registry data in conjunction with the Burn Program leadership and utilizes this information to improve the clinical care of burn patients.
- Works collaboratively with the institutional PI program manager and burn subspecialists
- Works in conjunction with the Burn Program Manager to identify, review, monitor, and track PI opportunities at the system and provider level. Escalates cases as appropriate for review by Burn Medical Director and peer review. Quality Assurance
- Facilitate overall Burn program quality and consistency
- Evaluates quality assurance filters as defined by the ABA designated standards and internal filters for process and care improvement opportunities.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual QA reports
- Collaborates with the Burn Medical Director and Burn Program Manager to develop and maintain a set of quality indicators for the Burn program and to ensure that staff in all departments managing the care of burn patients are knowledgeable about the Burn program standards of care.
- Coordinates review of variances with Burn Medical Director, Burn Program Manager/Director, and other departments and subspecialists.
- Integrates burn quality improvement with the hospitals quality program.
- Provides follow up and performance improvement feedback to referring hospitals and EMS agencies. Supports Burn Registry functions
- Reviews burn admission records for data collection and abstraction for inclusion into the burn registry and for appropriateness of admission service
- Analyzes all records for quality assurance burn care standards recommended by the Burn Committee and stipulated by appropriate accrediting agencies
- Maintains highest level of burn registry validity to assure accurate program benchmarking
- Completes routine checks of abstracted data for accuracy
- Identifies suspicious or invalid cases, variables, and data values and escalates findings to the Burn Program Manager
- Works collaboratively with the burn registrar to identify and track ABA defined complications Performs other work-related assignments as assigned by the Burn Program Manager
- Attends all Burn Program meetings as requested
- Attends events and educational offerings outside of the Burn Center as designated by the Burn Program Manager
- Participates on designated subcommittee(s) to support Burn program accreditation standards

Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
