Who are we looking for?

GHD has an exciting opportunity for Senior Staff Geologist with specialized expertise in geology and CAD/GIS in dams, reservoirs, levees, flood control channels, and other water storage facility projects. This position will work from our Irvine office, supporting projects in the West Region.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Safety Inspections: Conduct rigorous safety inspections for dams and levees to ensure structural integrity and compliance with safety standards.
  • Surveillance and Monitoring Programs: Develop and implement surveillance and monitoring programs to track the performance and stability of water storage structures.
  • Subsurface Investigations: Perform subsurface investigations to assess geological conditions and inform the design and maintenance of water storage facilities.
  • Inundation Studies: Carry out dam-break inundation studies to predict and mitigate the impacts of potential dam failures.
  • GIS and CAD Proficiency: Utilize ArcGIS for spatial analysis and mapping, and leverage AutoCAD, Microstation, and AutoCAD Civil 3D for detailed engineering designs.
  • Hydrologic/Hydraulic Modeling: Experience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and FLO-2D is preferred.
Qualifications;
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in geology and CAD/GIS.
  • Strong understanding of geological principles and their application in the design and maintenance of water storage facilities.
  • Proven experience in conducting safety inspections, developing monitoring programs, and performing subsurface investigations.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and FLO-2D.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.BS in Environmental Science, Geology or related field
  • Minimum 8 years experience

Salary Range- $113,000-$172,500 based on experience
