The senior group sales advisor is responsible for growing membership within existing accounts and for directly managing business relationships with large client accounts. The senior group sales advisor's work assignments involve service and retention of existing complex groups where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The senior group sales advisor is the primary contact for their book of business. Their responsibilities will be influenced by each customer's culture, expectations, requirements, complexity and size. Will meet with customers to present reporting and renewals.

Compensation

$109,280 -$130,000 annually

  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.

What you'll do Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers at all levels of their organization.
  • Establish broker and association contacts and develop relationships.
  • Act as liaison between BCBSKS, customer and internal partners.
  • Coordinate partnership meetings with the client.
  • Determine customer strategy and expectations.
  • Provide regular updates to customers on BCBSKS initiatives, updates, news releases and Industry matters.
  • Deliver utilization reports to client and broker.
  • Collaborate with internal partners and stakeholders on group's renewal strategy.
  • Deliver renewal information to customer/ consultant/ broker, lead negotiations and confirm final renewal action to appropriate parties through sold case paperwork to initiate renewal implementation.
  • Collaborate with all parties to determine OE meeting schedules.
  • Conduct and participate in seminars.
  • Escalate service issues to appropriate internal partners and ensure resolution.
  • Proactively identify ways to improve customer experience and current processes.
  • Identify and peruse expansion/ growth opportunities within our book of business.
  • Primary point of contact for oversight and completion of RFP/RFI for renewal and expansion opportunities.
  • Overcome jeopardy situations with analysis and knowledge of commercial competition.
  • When appropriate, recommend benefit changes and/or additional new product sales to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Must be available for early morning or evening hours activities.
  • Must support and exhibit the company's values of integrity, dependability, service, growth and progress, and courage.
  • Develop cross-selling opportunities through personal calls, follow-up as appropriate.
  • Maintain sales database system.
  • Assists in support activities as directed by the Regional Manager.
  • Deliver renewals and complete appropriate paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Performs administrative functions.
  • Plans for proper and timely completion of all required reports (annual plans and weekly activity reports).
  • Employs appropriate time management.
  • Continues personal development through training, continuing education and other insurance information sources.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Participates in development of performance evaluation of support staff.
  • Provides management with feedback of insureds attitudes and develops recommendations for improvement, where applicable.
  • Recommends policy, benefit and procedural changes, where applicable.
  • When necessary, oversees office and sales support staff.
  • Assists in developing sales aids and recommends improvements in sales materials, where applicable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Requires the ability to acquire and understand Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association rules and regulations concerning groups and prospects that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas can write in our Plan area.
  • Ability to think strategically and build meaningful relationships.
  • Requires the ability to complete a high volume of sales/retention calls to meet minimum goals and in meeting the needs of the customer.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that qualifies for the company automobile insurance.
  • Required to sign a non-compete agreement.
  • Requires the ability to acquire industry knowledge of insurance products, services and sales culture.
  • Exceptional objection handling & closing skills
  • Expected to maintain high integrity & ethical standards and professional appearance standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to customers
  • Ability to work flexible and morning & evening hours. Some overnight travel will be required. Requires a minimum of 75% travel within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Project management and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Root cause analysis and problem solving includes thinking outside of the box to identify solutions for clients.

What you need
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, economics or related field preferred. In lieu of degree, must have four years extensive direct sales or account management experience.
  • If not already attained, must acquire a State of Kansas insurance agents license within 60 days and must maintain the license through employment.
  • Previous outside sales success or account management in a competitive environment
  • Key account development with experience assessing and developing key decision-makers and influencers
  • Experience in engaging with customers and handling long-term/high value contracts.
