Position SummaryIn the College of Nursing, Inclusive Excellence and Health and Community Engagement are central to all our work. Given this belief, all team members in the College of Nursing carry a leadership role that fosters a sense of inclusion, belonging, and servant leadership. The academic advisor will be responsible for assisting in supporting or co-leading the planning and implementation of initiatives that support the achievement of the College of Nursing's mission, vision, and strategic goals related to inclusive excellence in enrollment, academic advising, recruitment, and admissions for prospective and current Nursing students. The academic advisor will be responsible for assisting in supporting or co-leading the planning, coordinating, and implementation of processes and initiatives that support the achievement of the College of Nursing's goals and strategic initiatives related to undergraduate student services, academic advising, recruitment, admissions, assessment, and data tracking/analysis/reporting. The successful applicant will have a strong record of working in an academic setting and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We also seek individuals with experience in academic advising, recruitment, program/project management, event planning, and strong administrative skills. Occasional evenings and weekends Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide academic advising to a diverse student body of prospective and current undergraduate students regarding academic program planning (including university, college, and major requirements).
  • Champion inclusive practices that lead and transform others and create initiatives that change structural systems within nursing education that have historically inhibited disenfranchised, marginalized, and unintentionally excluded underrepresented communities.
  • Monitor and track the academic progress of undergraduate students.
  • Proactively provide graduation checks for undergraduate students to ensure students are on track for graduation.
  • Coordinate orientations for new undergraduate students.
  • Support the creation and growth of academic success initiatives-partner with the OSA director to create pipelines for revenue-generating academic programs.
  • Process and/or manage course overrides for students.
  • Teach at least one section of the UGS 110 seminar for Pre-Nursing students annually.
  • Coordinate, plan, and/or participate in College of Nursing-hosted events coordinated in the Office of Student Affairs, including, but not limited to, New Student Orientation, CON program orientations, Colloquium, Off-Boarding Day, Career Fairs, Senior Off-Boarding Day, graduation events, pinning ceremonies, recruitment events, etc.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate strategic assessment of all undergraduate-level initiatives, academic advising, programs, and events.
  • Attend CON meetings such as, but not limited to, CON All-College meetings, search committees, etc.
  • Serve on university-wide and college-level committees.

Required Degree

Masters -Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field.
  • A minimum of one year of academic advising and/or recruiting experience in an institution of higher education.
  • Culturally competent with experience working with culturally diverse individuals and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with experience in public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with detailed information with attention to accuracy; strong skills in documentation, tracking, and data collection.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to provide high-quality customer service and handle multiple priorities simultaneously with confidence and poise in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize activities so that deadlines are met with limited supervision.
  • Ability to access, understand, and interpret data from various sources to promote student success through data-informed and innovative practices.
  • Proven success in innovative thinking to develop and implement creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively and constructively with people at multiple levels and with diverse perspectives and to build consensus across multiple divisions of a complex organization.
  • Ability to lift 30+ lbs.
  • Valid driver's license.
Desired Qualifications
  • Evidence of and commitment to professional development.
  • Teaching and/or presentation experiences with students.
  • Experience working with complex student information systems/student databases.
  • Understanding of the unique criteria and intricacies of a Nursing or Health Professions curricula.
