Ledgent is partnering with a very well-known construction organization in Minneapolis adding a Sr. Payroll Specialist to their team.
Ideal candidate would be CPP or FPC certified, have 4+ years of payroll processing experience in a construction environment (union/non union and multi-state exposure), and comfortable working primarily on site (underground parking paid for!).
Direct Hire Position. $80,000-$95,000/annually. Flexibility to work remote 1x/week after training. GREAT office culture (community involvement, team building activities, catered in meals, on-site gym, paid underground parking, culture FIRST collaborative mentality).
Job Duties:
Payroll Processing:
- Process bi-weekly payroll for 600+ employees across multiple states, including both union and non-union workers.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of all pay-related information, including regular wages, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, and commissions-based compensation.
- Review, audit, and verify employee timecards and hours worked, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure payroll compliance with multi-state, federal, and local tax regulations, including income tax, social security, workers' compensation, and other deductions.
- Process and manage the filing of payroll taxes, wage garnishments, and other deductions, ensuring timely remittance to appropriate agencies.
- Generate and submit accurate quarterly and year-end payroll tax filings (e.g., Form 941, state tax filings, W-2, 1099, etc.).
- Maintain knowledge of current and evolving union contract requirements and construction industry-specific regulations affecting payroll.
System & Process Optimization:
- Oversee payroll system maintenance, ensuring all employee data is accurately entered and updated, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and changes in pay.
- Collaborate with HR and IT departments to ensure smooth integration of payroll with other business systems (HRIS, benefits, timekeeping).
- Continuously improve payroll processing workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Maintain payroll-related records and documentation in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Audit & Reconciliation:
- Perform regular payroll audits and reconciliations to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Work closely with Finance and Accounting teams to reconcile payroll data with the general ledger and other financial reports.
Requirements:
- CPP or FPC - strongly preferred
- 3+ years of experience processing payroll in a construction environment (union/non union and multi-state processing)
- ADP WFN (bonus) or similar payroll experience
- Comfortable working primarily on-site
- Collaborative attitude that would work well in a team environment
