The Senior Scientist II is responsible for development and optimization of real time PCR and RT-PCR assays for host response project. As a Senior Scientist II, selected candidate will have opportunity to act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements as well as lead others to takes a new perspective using existing solutions to resolve project related issues. Flexibility is important in adjusting to changes in work volume and focus.

This position is part of Assay Research and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA, Onsite. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Design and develop the unique PCR based IVD product.
  • Solve complex problems; take a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.
  • Gain knowledge and utilize State of Art best practices and integrate those with project(s).
  • Lead others to takes a new perspective using existing solutions to resolve project related issues.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Assay and control of real time PCR and RT-PCR IVD product.
  • Planning and executing rigorous analytical studies required to demonstrate technical feasibility of complex assays.
  • Demonstrated conceptual and practical expertise in infectious disease field and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Maintaining detailed experimental records and present data at technical meetings.
  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular biology or related field with 5+ years of related work experience OR Master's degree in Molecular biology or related field with 3+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in Molecular biology or related field with related work experience.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment wearing personal protective equipment including but not limited to lab coats, goggles, gloves, masks, etc. for extended periods.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Assay development experience on GeneXpert platform.
  • Developing new assays and/or test methods/procedures.
  • Knowledge of biomarker discovery, signature evaluation, principles of assay control, and quality assurance.

The salary range for this role is $103,000 to $160,000 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
