Job Description
This position is full-time, day shift.

Directs and supervises performance of a group of employees engaged in similar functions and directs a major organization-wide work process. Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures. Translates the overall objectives set by higher management into individual and collective objectives for subordinates and develops plans for accomplishing them. Provides training and communicates information from higher management to employees. Assists the Director and the Vice President of Patient-Care Services in accomplishing his/her twenty-four hour responsibility for operation of area(s) of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Establishes objectives with plans of action pertinent to area of responsibility in support of the system's strategic plan.
  • Directs, organizes, delegates, and performs a variety of personnel functions including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating performance, coaching, and disciplining of employees.
  • Assists with the preparation of operational and capital budgets, and continually manages financial resources to obtain maximum performance.
  • Evaluates staffing and scheduling as needed to ensure uninterrupted services and supports changes in services and patient care demands.
  • Approves purchase of supplies for the department; supervises maintenance activities and quality control procedures for equipment.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other system staff to resolve problems, and promotes harmonious relationships within the system.
  • Reviews policies, procedures, and standards regularly to ensure compliance with all appropriate professional organization standards and all appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Serves as a role model and provides support for staff in executing their functions and consults with them in matters pertinent to policy interpretation.
  • Evaluates technical activities, environmental conditions, and the overall functions of the department.
  • Contributes to and supports programs of education for departmental staff, medical and other staff development.
  • Supervises clerical and administrative functions of the department, including the required record systems for internal control and those pertinent to the total function of the system.
  • Continually seeks opportunities to improve the performance of work processes.
  • Implements the Case Management concept.
  • During staffing shortages or periods of unusually high patient census or acuity, the Manager may be utilized in the same capacity as a staff RN (see RN job description)
  • Attends System meetings and activities, as well as external agencies and organizations as assigned.
  • Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Manual.
  • Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Pink, Code D, Code Red (in their area), Code Green (in their area), Code Blue (in their area).
  • Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee's knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications
  • Current Maryland licensure.
  • BSN required. Master's Degree is desirable.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of related clinical experience that is compatible with area(s) of responsibility.
  • Two years of decentralized management experience preferred.
  • Certification in nursing specialty and/or nursing administration desirable.
  • ACLS Certification (Critical Care) required within one year.
